How to unclog a drain

The sink takes a little longer to drain, water collects around your feet in the shower, the strange and unpleasant odors. No, you don’t have indigestion. You have a clogged drain. Here are a few time tested cocktail recipes to follow before the situation gets serious:

1) The Hot Fizz – Pour a pot of boiling hot water down the drain. Pour a mixture of 1/3 cup of vinegar and 1/3 cup of baking soda as it fizzes. Cover with a drain plug and let it for an hour at least. Overnight would be ideal. Flush one more time with a pot of boiling water.

2) The Hangman – Simple and effective. Take a regular wire coat hanger and straighten it out. Then, bend one end over to create a small hook. Push it past the drain cover and start fishing.  This should get all sorts of debris out of the drain. Remember, always to pull dirt out, not push it further. After pulling out as much as possible pour hot water. This should clear things up nicely.

3) The Sucker Punch – A plunger is an effective tool for clearing drains with a vacuum created and releasing the dirt choking the drains.

Other non-hilarious ways to prevent your drains from clogging would be to use traps and meshes which are easier to clean. Cold weather tends to freeze oils that have trickled down the drain, which could clog and even crack pipes in extreme situations, which is why using drain cleaning fluids could help.
To unclogged drains. Cheers.
